The Crown Estate at Hemel Garden Communities (HGC) – invitation to events on proposed community garden at Cherry Tree Lane

  • General news

We are now progressing with work on a planning application for our East Hemel site, which forms part of the HGC programme, and we look forward to holding our first full public consultation later this year to give the local community and other stakeholders the opportunity to share their views.

As part of our wider vision for the site, we are looking to create a community garden at Cherry Tree Lane, Woodhall Farm, in partnership with local charity and social enterprise, Sunnyside Rural Trust.  We are hosting three events in July, where we will be inviting feedback from local residents to help shape our proposals and inform a planning application, as we look to deliver a community garden which increases access to nature and brings value to residents.

The community garden will be located on an area of land owned by The Crown Estate bound by Redbourn Road to the north, Cherry Tree Lane to the east, the Nickey Line to the south and Britannia Close and Phoenix Walk to the west.

Our first event is specifically intended for those neighbouring the site, including residents of Britannia Close, Brockswood Drive and Phoenix Walk.  The other two drop-in events are open for anyone in the local community, as advertised on the enclosed flyer.

Further details for the three events are set out below. You are welcome to come to any of the events.

Monday 15 July: 4pm-7pm

Initial residents’ briefing at Sunnyside Rural Trust Garden Café, Two Waters Road, HP3 9BY

Thursday 18 July: 2pm-6pm & Saturday 20 July: 10am-2pm

Community consultation event at Woodhall Farm Community Centre, HP2 7JX

These two drop-in events will include design discussions, workshops and site visits to the land at Cherry Tree Lane.  Refreshments will be provided by local charity, The Blue Tangerine Federation, and child-friendly activities will be facilitated by local organisation, Apex 360.

We would welcome local input and knowledge to help inform our proposals and hope that you are able to attend.
